30 pianos. 5 Piano Sheds. Let's Get to Work.

We have 30 old pianos hiding in Holbeck. And they’re about to get a very unusual second life.

This Saturday, 5 September, we’re opening our doors for the first of a series of wonderfully creative piano dismantling workshops — and we’d love you to come and get stuck in!

We’re delighted to be sponsoring this brilliant project, providing workshop space and donating 30 old pianos to be taken apart, rescued and transformed into something completely new. We look forward once again to be working alongside the fabulously inventive Pianodrome and The Leeds Piano Competition team.

From each piano the timber, ironwork and other useful bits will be carefully salvaged and eventually transformed into five unique Piano Sheds, with working instruments, for the 2027 Leeds Piano Trail Festival.

But first… we need to take them apart.

Every piano has a story, so each one will be documented — its age, its wood and even the mysterious little treasures lurking inside.

Who knows what we'll find?

Before each piano begins its transformation, its final swan song will be recorded before the dismantling begins.

It's recycling. It's archaeology. It's woodworking. It's music.

No specialist experience needed.

Woodworkers, makers, DIY enthusiasts, gardeners, piano lovers, curious beginners and anyone who simply fancies trying something completely different — you're very welcome. Supervised children are welcome too!
